The morning before a big day in the mountains has a ritual: find the coffee. In a good trail town it is rarely a drive-thru. It is a small roaster with a line of people, a bakery counter, or a cart at the base of the lift.

These are the independent coffee shops and roasters we point friends to in each town. Most roast their own beans or buy from someone nearby.
