A good brewery is the unofficial finish line of a trail town. Long tables, dogs under them, someone comparing blister stories at the next seat. This is our running list of independent breweries and taprooms in the towns we love, with where to find them and what to order.

If you are an IPA person, we have noted the hoppy beers each place is known for. If you are not, the same places almost always pour a lager, a stout or a golden ale that will do the job.

How we pick: We list independent breweries that make their own beer, plus a few tap houses with a serious local list, and we label those so you know the difference. Nothing here is a paid placement.
