TrailFurther is a newsletter and resource for masters trail runners and gravel riders — field notes and essays on training smarter, aging well, and adventuring longer.
About trailfurther
We're Paul & Susan Lieto. Trailfurther started in 2017 — back then it was just us, figuring out how to keep moving through the mountains without falling apart in the process.
After almost a decade of adventures, races, injuries, achy joints and sore muscles, we noticed most of the advice for endurance athletes assumes you're 28. We're in our 50s, as are most of the people we train, race, and recover alongside.
So this project became something else — a community for trail runners, gravel riders, mountain bikers, and fastpackers who are well past their PRs from a decade ago and perfectly fine with that, as long as we've still got people to suffer alongside on the way up the next climb.
What we're building here.
Our mission is to build a knowledge collective for well-worn, but durable endurance athletes, where curiosity thrives and learning never stops. We aspire to help athletes get out further on trails, gravel roads and mountain passes, while building resilience and increasing longevity and healthspan.
“We're a resource and community for well-worn trail runners, gravel riders, fastpackers, and mountain bikers who've still got more miles in them.”
